Siolta/Aistear

Siolta Information

Síolta has been designed to assist all those concerned with the provision of quality early education in Ireland to participate in a developmental journey towards the improvement and enrichment of young children's early, and arguably most critical, life experiences.

BCCN and Siolta

BCCN Siolta Information Sessions

Siolta information sessions have been held jointly with CCC staff across the region, this was a very positive experience where many issues were raised and addressed. This in turn helped generate and a great deal of enthusiasm for the Siolta framework.

BCCN’s rationale for embracing the Siolta tools and process’s as a means of supporting the attainment of quality standards was explained thoroughly at each session in order to quell dissatisfaction among providers with the discontinuation of the BCCN QDAP.

Staff from 400 services attended information sessions, drawn mainly from sessional pre-school services, but also from full day care and childminding services.

BCCN Siolta Networks

The BCCN Siolta information sessions generated a lot of enthusiasm for the Siolta Framework.

In response to the enthusiasm from providers and the desire to accommodate as many as possible to participate in the Siolta Networks BCCN has decided to engage in both the informal and formal approach to assisting services progress the Siolta agenda.

11 BCCN Siolta Networks have been established with the possibility of an additional one being established in Meath in September.

The position now is as follows

Sligo: 2 networks

Leitrim: 1 network

Cavan: 1 network

Louth: 2 networks

Meath: 2 networks (with the possibility of a third)

Monaghan: 2 networks

Donegal: One small network with staff from six services

Audit: Similarities and Differences (PDF, 728KB).

This document provides an audit of:

Aistear, The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework and Síolta, The National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education. The audit was carried out jointly by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) and the Centre for Early Childhood Development and Education (CECDE) which developed Síolta on behalf of the Department of Education and Science. The CECDE closed in November 2008 and responsibility for the implementation of Síolta now lies with the Department of Education and Science.
